What is it?
A dogmatic tone is one that is arrogant and close-minded. It implies that the speaker is absolutely right and that there is no room for debate. This can shut down conversation and make it difficult to find common ground.
Examples
"There is no question that my view is the only correct one."
"Anyone who disagrees with me is simply wrong."
How to Avoid This
Be humble and open-minded. Acknowledge that you could be wrong and that others may have valid points. Use phrases like 'It seems to me...' or 'One way of looking at it is...'
How to Counter This
You can gently challenge the dogmatic tone. 'I understand that you feel strongly about this, but I see it differently. Can we discuss the evidence?' You can also simply refuse to engage with someone who is not willing to have a respectful conversation.
