Loaded Language: Neutral-but-Evaluative
Category: Rhetoric

What is it?

This is a type of loaded language that uses positive words to create a favorable impression. It's often used in advertising and propaganda.

Examples

"Experience the revolutionary new smartphone."

"Our visionary leader has a bold plan for the future."

How to Avoid This

Support your positive claims with evidence, not just glowing adjectives. Instead of saying a plan is 'bold', explain what makes it bold and why that is a good thing.

How to Counter This

Look past the positive language and ask for the substance behind it. 'What is so 'revolutionary' about this phone? What specific features does it have?'
